My Wish

Today as I was finishing my spring cleaning, I decided to put my iPod on shuffle. That was my first mistake. Usually, I arrange a playlist for specific parts of the day, like when I go to the gym, when I study, or in this case, when I clean. But today for some reason I decided I needed to figure out exactly what music I had on my iPod, and the best way do that was to listen to everything. The first few songs were well selected: David Archuletta's "Crush," Beyonce's "All My Single Ladies," BBMAK's "Back Here" among many others. The upbeat rythms kept my morale high and pumped to finish cleaning. But just as I was preparing to mop the kitchen floor, I heard a faint, familiar melody. It began soft and sweet. Almost too delicate to hear. The slow harp progressions were suttle, and just above them rang the voice of a tenor. It didn't take long for me to realize that the lyrics represented the classic solo "Bring Him Home" from Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. Immediately my mind was flooded with memories of last summer when I studied abroad in England. For a moment I thought I could almost hear taxi cars whizzing through London's narrow, cobble stone streets, or smell the aroma of fish and chip carts outside the theatre. During my studies I had the opportunity to see Les Miserables live in London's West End theatre district. One word: Incredible! Surely the best Jean Valjean to ever be played! In all the time that has passed since last summer, I forgot how much I appreciated not only my chance to see the play, but also to enjoy rich European culture.

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to express my longing for the touching story of a man passionate to change his life for the better, and also for themes of young love and sacrifice. Today I decided that before I graduate (Dec 2010!) I want to fly to NY and see Les Miserables. That is my wish. And that's all.
