Friday Letters

Dear Job,

Quitting you wasn't as hard scary as I expected.
Everyone was really supportive and excited about the adventures ahead.
Of course, departures like these tend to lean bitter/sweet. I'm pleased I made it to my year mark, but a little sad I won't get to stick around and see how I could have improved things next year now that I finally understand everything.
I feel a little more refined because of the challenges you brought to my life: two and half hours of commuting every day, grumpy middle-aged men, demanding clients, unfair judgements and uncertainty. Hopefully, because of those "thorns in my side," I'm now a little more qualified to handle "real life".
Aside from the challenges, you did shower down blessings.
You helped me realize I'm NOT a quitter. I'm strong. I'm smart. I'm committed.
That's priceless information--especially for a girl who tends to second guess herself.
You blessed me with great managers who gave me second chances and were always kind, FREE blue powerade every day, my first raise, and friendly colleagues who'd I'd be happy to work with again.

It's been a good year--one I'll recall fondly.

Thanks for the growth and memories,
Katie

Dear Homemaking Professionals,

If homemaking were a major and cooking were a class, I'd definitely be failing. I hate meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning dishes. Do I do it anyway? Yes. Do I try to do it with a smile on my face? Totally. Does that smile too easily fade into a full-blown tantrum most nights? Maybe. All I really want to say is, someday, (and soon) I'd like to be injected with a love and desire for all things kitchen-y.

Politely begging,
a newlywed

Dear Old Navy,

I am so glad you were selling black flats at exactly the moment I needed them. They work splendidly on the days when my achilles tenden can no longer tolerate the awkward angles of high heels.

Sincerely,
bad feet

Dear Weekend,

You're almost here. You're almost here. You're almost here.

Sincerely,
Sleepless in Utah

Dear Coeur d'Alene,

Please be good to us. If you can't already tell, I'm a bit nervous about moving. We won't know anybody, which is all fine and good. I mean, it never hurts to be outside one's comfort zone, forced strongly encouraged to make new friends. But I'm still nervous. There are so many unknowns. Will winters be fierce? Will Cale still love his job? Will I find work? Are the summers really as beautiful as everyone says they are? Will we feel at home?

I've been told not to worry, so I try not to -- no matter how out of character that feels.

January 3, 2013 is the BIG day when the truck will pull up in front our basement apartment and we'll pack for the next chapter. Mom will come into town to help, and I'll probably sniffle a little because I always get teary eyed when I feel uncertain. But all drama aside, I just wanna say "thanks" for the opportunity. Cale has worked really hard for a great job and what a blessing it is that he's been given one, that we've been given one.

Maybe pine trees and blue lakes won't be so bad after all.

Best,
We're moving

  2. I am so excited for you!!! Although I have to confess I was really hoping you would move back here...for selfish reasons like wanting to bring back our chili nights. CONGRATS to Cale on the job, and enjoy your new journey together!!
