Give it Up

Give it up, He says,
Give up that which confuses light with darkness 

productivity with destruction, 

faith with fear, and love with apathy. 

The best match, the ideal fit

is nothing more than a vain pursuit

The search for something greater, much more real and basic

is everything you could ever want. 

Pursuers of perfection   

find only disappointment and frustration. 

Seekers of truth and light and righteous potential

find indescribable joy and happiness. 

Where effort is expected but in all the wrong venues

shallow waves engulf the heart. 

Where effort is nurtured, encouraged, and realized 

grand seas of depth fill every crevice of the being. 

What seems best according to reason is in actuality 

only a confirmation of narrowed insight and foolish yearning. 

What feels right is in essence 

burning evidence of God's awareness, love, and presence. 

Give it up, He says, and in return 

you will be blessed with greater understanding, 

greater love, and greater hope. 

Give it up, He says, and trust in He who can be trusted.
